Origin of the Egyptian cat (Sphynx cat)
The Sphynx cat, also known as the Egyptian cat, originates from Canada. It was first discovered in 1966 in Toronto, when a hairless female cat gave birth to a litter of hairless kittens. These kittens are named Prune, Demeter and Bastet.
The Sphynx cat quickly gained popularity in Canada and was later bred with other cat breeds to create a hairless cat with a well-proportioned and healthy body. It was officially recognized by the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) in 1978 and the World Cat Federation (WCF) in 1983. Due to its resemblance to ancient Egyptian statues, it was named Sphynx or Egyptian cat. In 2005, Sphynx was even awarded the title of “World’s Ugliest Cat”.
The Sphynx cat has a unique appearance with a completely hairless body and wrinkled face, which makes it stand out from other cat breeds.
Despite its unusual appearance, it is prized for its intelligence, friendliness, and trainability.
